The Seagrove Village Market was established in 1949 and remains today as an almost iconic landmark reminiscent of days gone by. The Flowers family owned and operated the Seagrove Motel and Cottages for many years before selling the property to developers. Now standing on this property is restaurant Whiskey Bravo, Cowgirl Kitchen and some local shops with new, gulf front multi million dollar beach homes being built across the street. Seagrove Beach has become quite congested these days, especially during the summer months due to its central location directly east of Seaside and close to Watercolor. The next time you are driving through the Seagrove Beach area on your way toward Watersound or Rosemary Beach heading east, or Seaside, Grayton Beach heading west, slow down and take a look around. Seagrove Beach is still full of “old Florida” style beach homes and cottages that were built in the 50’s and 60’s mixed in with upscale second home and vacation rentals that stay full for a good 8 months of our “season”. There is an eclectic mix of the old and new to be found here with an array of beach shops and restaurants scattered along this beautiful part of 30A.

Seagrove Villas Motel No More.
The historic Seagrove Villas Motel has welcomed SoWal beach lovers for over 60 years, but the doors have closed and the neon sign dimmed for apparently the final time.
Soon all that will remain will be the memories for so many beach lovers who have stayed at the motel and villas over the years. Thankfully, a few of the cottages on the north side of Scenic 30A will remain as shops. Perhaps to some a sad reminder of sunny days gone by when they visited the motel as part of “Old Florida”.
Since 1952, the Seagrove Villas has been a popular South Walton getaway and in many ways a reflection of real estate development in our area. The mom-and-pop motel started as a summer retreat with two concrete-block duplex cottages in the middle of nowhere. And what a magical nowhere it was back then — a 30-foot bluff right on the Gulf along a pristine stretch of the Panhandle beach, halfway between Panama City and Fort Walton, in the still unincorporated town of Seagrove. It was even marketed at the time with the clever catch phrase “where nature did its best.”
Planning is underway for Taste of the Beach 2012 kick off event, “Vine to Wine – A Wine Preview” on Aug. 24th, 2012. This year the event is being held in the former Victoria’s Secret space at Grand Boulevard. Right now, it’s just an empty building, but with help of Monark Events, it will transform into a super chic event space!
